TIME-MARKERS: The Sculpture of Elza Mayhew.
With the casting of the Column of the Sea.
A 26-minute film produced in 1985 by Karl Spreitz and Anne Mayhew.
Includes original footage of the casting of the Column of the Sea in 1973 at the Eugene Aluminum and Brass Foundry, Eugene, Oregon; subsequent sand-blasting and welding together of the 35 pieces of the 16-foot column at Myrmo’s Machine Shop in Eugene; and the final shipping to Confederation Centre, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, for the centenary of that province.
This film has recently been made available via a virtual exhibition of the films of Karl Spreitz – Karl Spreitz and Collaborators, Archival Film Collection -- launched by the University of Victoria in April 2013. A unique project, it involved the digitizing of over 15 reels of 16mm film, including several films documenting the work of some of the Victoria “Limners” group of artists: Elza Mayhew, and also Maxwell Bates, Richard Ciccimarra, Helga and Jan Grove, Herbert Siebner, and Myfanwy Pavelic.
